Behind-the-Scenes Studio| Birth Month Botanical Watercolors & White Floral Oil Paintings
March 2022. It’s hard to believe that I’m even typing those words at this moment. The glass of Bordeaux on the side table makes it a little easier to swallow but the beginning of the year has flown by. It’s been a bit of a whirlwind. I can feel the seasons shifting both figuratively and literally. I participated in my first EVER art market at Odd Colony Brewing in downtown Pensacola and showcased many of my botanical watercolors and prints. I’m so grateful for the generous feedback I got from so many that attended and I’m excited to say that I’ll be participating in their Spring market on March 20.
So far this year I’ve begun creating two new botanical painting collections, as well as some larger paintings featuring, you guessed it, more florals. The first is the Birth Month Botanicals watercolor collection. Each month I’ve been releasing watercolor paintings of the two birth month flowers that historically represent that month, and those born in it. This will be going on through the end of 2022 so if you want to follow along, be sure that you sign up for my email list where I announce their release each month.
My other, more recent, series is a growing collection of small oil paintings showcasing white florals all painted from flowers I’ve gathered in my own yard. We’ve not been living in our home because of damage from Hurricane Sally last year and it’s become a kind of healing ritual for me to walk the grounds at this place where my spirit feels alive and forget for a few minutes that we’re displaced. Hearing the chickens clucking happily in their coop and the pigs snorting as they rifle through their feed soothes me in a way that only nature can. Picking up my pruning shears returns a sense of normalcy to my day, even if I have to leave after all the farm chores are done. In a way, creating this new botanical collection has been a way for me to still feel connected to my home even when I’m away from it. The release date for these paintings is to be determined but scroll down and you’ll get a peek at what I’ve painted so far!
