What I’ve Been Painting - A Studio Behind-the-Scenes
Scroll for watercolor time-lapse videos and behind-the-scenes in the studio.
Spring came early to our mini-farm. All of the plants that overwintered are pushing out chartreuse leaves. While humankind is presently battling a health crisis, my plant "friends" are charging forward with enthusiasm. In this time that feels almost stagnant for us bipeds, the natural growth around holds me enthralled even more so than usual.
In this season, I've confined myself to only the small stretch of woods around me and the garden I tend but, my excitement about Spring has had no problem making its way into my sunny art studio. I find myself enlivened at the sight of unfurling ferns and the v-shaped frond I discovered and dubbed the "Siamese Twins." The orchid that sits on my painting desk has pushed out not one, but three branches from its flowering shoot as though aching to bestow as much beauty on its immediate environment as possible. Its scraggly roots as wild as Medusa's mane. Natural curiosities such as these always hold me captive, but they are even more welcome now.
I cannot dismiss these little botanical wonders. I drag them into the studio for further examination and observation with, not a magnifying glass, but brush and paint. Spending intimate time painting these specimens makes everything else melt away and I hope that my artwork does the same for you. Paintings are a magical escape that make this strange world more enchanting, even in an uncertain era.
I invite you to step into my little corner of the world and revel in the freedom of it for a few minutes yourself. Below you will find time-lapses of a couple of my creations coming to life.
